well, i though i had something good here with working 3 12 hr days and then having 4 days off. now with prices going up and all the changes i've decided to take up a pt job.

i gassed up my kia a little bit and the dollars were flying by on
the gas pump. i didnt even put in half a tank and what i paid was more than what i paid before for a full tank.

so much for the sitting on my ass.
I'll be repairing and sanitizing kids play areas, indoor and outdoors, so that sounds decent for extra money.

Picked up my "new" escape a few days ago. Filled it just to see what kind

I'm hoping to find a little manual shift 4-banger to get around town in when I don't need my scooter (I don't need it all the time as I have to keep walking to stay in some sort of shape even if that shape is round). My mom keeps thinking I can't drive a stick with my prosthetic boots...I think I can.

So I am trying to get my friend to take me over to the local Nissan dealer so I can test drive a new Versa 5-speed...and terrify the poor salesperson that rides along. I haven't driven in two years and a stick for about three but there's some things you don't forget.

the woman i live with has and escape and the gas mileage isnt great. also no 4wd. that's good that you can manually shift, so that might help.

my kia gets great gas mileage but i have to hide it. people tried to steal it twice already. kia theft is huge in milwaukee.

Why not just get an automatic? I mean honestly if I had your feet I
wouldn't even bother with a manual. I only buy them because no one wants
them and they are half price of an automatic one in today's over priced
    market.

So far it's pretty good. However I'm used to a 22 year old minivan with a

Like I said... I know I over paid but I didn't overpay by much. 2 Years ago
in the first lockdown we got Andrea's 2012 accent for $4500 with around
130k. I paid $4000 for my 2010 escape with 327k on it. lol

Do not buy anything right now. My vehicle is used to commute to work and until I know where that is I'm not sure how long that drive will be. :) Other then that unless it's trailer season I might drive 50 klms a month and that's just to the grocery store and back.

Those are nice. I'm a member of Patelco, the old Pacific Bell credit union, and they used to have parking lot car sales. Same deal, you could buy a used car and secure financing at the same time.

Credit unions were great just starting out - they were lenient with overdrsaft fees, often offered lots of services like credit cards and loans that you'd have a harder time securing when just starting out, and being able to get a car loan for a used auto was painful at best elsewhere.

During the 2008 financial crisis, most of the credit unions I knew of disclosed that they had no at-risk assets on their books.

I'm a member of another credit union now that pays interest on checking with no minimum and reimburses me for foreign ATM surcharges.

I'm used to loud from my Harleys, so no issues there. That is a nice bonus that it runs on pretty much anything. Even old used engine oil from what I understand.

When I do my vehicle oil changes, just dump the oil right into the M35's tank.

I actually really enjoy it and now that I no longer have to rush to fix something on a vehicle because it is the only vehicle and need it to get to work. That is why I have (4) vehicles and (2) motorcycles. Always have several backup methods of transportation when needed.

Hehe, that's a whole 'nother category, there. :-)

Most soccer Mom's would say the M35 is ugly, kills the ozone, etc. I think it is a work of arm and would use it as my daily driver. The entire neighborhood could get the pleasure of hearing me fire it up each morning.

My wife and I bought her an Acura MDX, they have a computer-controlled AWD system that sounds like the Subaru system that monitors conditions and automatically adjusts where the power goes, instead of waiting until the wheels slip.

any 4wd feels amazing in snow.
i have my ford explorer as a winter car. i never slip.

awd will cost you in gas money. also i see those people in those little subarus still drive like they are scared. it's still better than front wheel drive, though.

Subarus are still little cars, and weight plays into driving in the snow. my ex's impreza was better than her 2wd dodge but it didn't compare to my suv with driving in the snow. forresters are tiny too.

there are other cars with awd than subarus, also.

I replaced my 2010 Ford Escape AWD with a 2017 Ford Police Interceptor Utility that had been retired by the Vermont State Police. The 3.7L V6 actually gets better mileage than the 2.5L I-4 in the Escape was getting toward the end. Being from Vermont, the 2017 also came with AWD and decent winter tires.

Around here people either drive scared or they think that they can go 80+ in snow just because they have a 4WD/AWD SUV or pickup. I chuckle to myself as I pass them off the road stuck in a snowbank.

Same here. We had a nasty snow storm this year and busses, trucks, everything stuck in the ditch. Andrea went to work in her accent didn't get stuck worked all day drove home and had no issues. Sometimes you just need to know how

They *can* go 80+ mph in the snow/ice - they just better not plan on
    stopping.

My last experience in the snow was in my Prius with 3 passengers and myself. In retrospect, I should have gotten new tires first - I had about 6mm of
    tread on my car.

A 4 hour drive under sunny conditions took 12 hours, and the snow was coming down so hard that on the road to my cabin, I got stuck with cable chains
going up a hill and had to rock it to get moving again. My car was so low it was snowplowing!

Now, we have a 7-passenger AWD SUV with H/T tires. :)

That reminds me of an issue I had the first time I tried to drive to a new workplace in the snow. The entrance close to me is, from my direction, on
an incline. I had to stop in the center turn lane because there were cars coming the other way. Some bozo pulled out of an entrance across the
street, going too fast, and started sliding all over the road, mostly in
    the lane I was in.

Somehow, he unbozoed just long enough to manage to get around me before
losing control again. He was lucky he didn't wind up in oncoming traffic.
If I had not been there for him to steer around, I think he would have.

After that, when it snowed, I never tried going in that entrance. I would drive up the street a ways, turn into an always plowed side street (the
local utility company has an office on it), turn around and come back from
    the other direction.

that's the last time i pay attention to the weather report. i check the maps m

Front wheel drive with decent tires can get you most places. It's the places it can't that cause problems. :)

As long as you remember that all of the weight is on the front tires and the back can go whichever way it wants, you can do OK - and that going is easier than stopping. :)

(that last point is the lesson that SUV drivers will invariably miss, much
to the chagrin of the people in front of them)

I spent lots of time up in the mountains in California. We'd go to the ski resorts parking lots after closing and practice getting out of skids. I hope it helped, although I usually try to stay off the roads when it's really
    bad.

my kia sucks in the snow too. i spun around 360 on the highway when
going to work. the roads weren't plowed or salted and it didnt have
super thick snow on it. i was going 30 in a 70 and all of a sudden it felt like something grabbed my car and spun it.

I hit black ice in Oakland, CA on a cold morning, driving a 4x4 toyota
pickup (unfortunately in 2wd mode) and did a 360 once - luckily with no traffic and enough room to make it around.

I'm spoiled by AWD, while having 4wd and a granny low gear is nice in some situations, I'd rather be able to have all 4 wheels driving before I get in trouble without having to get out and lock hubs. :)

Front wheel drive with decent tires can get you most places. It's the places it can't that cause problems. :)

well i live in an area where the snow plows dont start up until later in the day. so any experience you have with driving in the snow is out the window.
it's best to stay at home. luckily this year wasn't bad but i could have wrecked my car easy that one time.

oh yeah i had a rear wheel drive delta 88. that shit was not fun in the ice.

I had as friend who went to Purdue out of high school. Drove his 1977
corvette there, and he complained that the tires never caught all winter - they spun from October until April!

Amazing to look back, that car came out in the middle of the "Malaise era"
in Detroit and had something like 210 horsepower. I had a Camry with close
to 200 with 2 less cylinders and 2 more doors.

That poor car -- it always ran like crap, and my friend was dumbfounded, always getting tuneups, swapping plug wires, new ignition, etc.

He took it to a new mechanic who called him aside when he went to pick it
up. He showed him the plugs he'd taken out - 6 NGK aftermarket plugs and 2
AC Delco OEM plugs. His mechanic "friend" never bothered replacing the back two plugs!

    It ran great after that.

Probably would have required a lot of work to get those 2 out and back in. Most of the Ford V6s these days that are transverse mounted require the removal of the intake manifold to access the rear bank ignition coils and spark plugs.

    It ran great after that.

    I bet.

oh yeah i had a rear wheel drive delta 88. that shit was not fun in the ice.

I'm from mid-Northern Ontario Canada and you get used to winter conditions or you die trying, not always a joke phrase. I'd now and then drive through the USA heading to Florida for a vacation in very late fall and occasional snow storms down there were almost comical.. We'd drive along watching people sliding off the road or into each other while we cruised past. It generally just takes (a lot of) practice.

That said, my first car was (after some work) a 575 HP Chevelle SS, and I couldn't afford to drive something else in winter and I was outside of public transit areas. I'll tell you, driving a car that I couldn't get rolling
without laying a little bit of rubber on dry pavement (did it once trying deperately not to beside a police car) was a joy to drive in snowy and icy conditions. That was when I was still in highschool and it was a 16 mile drive to my part time job after school, and then home again late at night after they'd usually stopped sanding and plowing the country back roads I had to travel on..

These days I try to drive as little as possible when the weather gets bad.
I managed fine this winter in a recently purchased Ford Escape with Michelin M&S tires on it. The worst part of most runs was getting back up the curved, steep driveway into my own garage..

That's like my Pathfinder; the two back plugs are really difficult to get to without a special tool. I usually have a family friend, who is a retired ASE-certified mechanic, replace the plugs on it.

I had a '94 Honda Civic that was so easy to change plugs on that I did it once in an Autozone parking lot.

With my Gen3 Prius, you need to take off the windshield wipers and the windshield facia to get to them. if only that engineer had rotated the
