From Sean Dennis@618:618/1 to All on Sat Jul 2 14:55:58 2022
    Hi everyone,

Anyone ever think they're finished tweaking their BBS only to find ten more things to do? I've spent most of my day hiding out in the air conditioning and my fan blowing at high speed tinkering on a ton of little things with several areas of the BBS.

I am also redoing a lot of stuff with my BBS doors also.

Certainly not with my BBS (since I run none), but with lots of software projects.

I recently got a software port included in OpenBSD which I have been using for years.
I considered it a done deal. Then tickets started rolling in :-)

    Air conditioning sounds good.

I've got some bugs in Mystic that I'm hoping g00r00 will take a look at, but the prereleases have been far between lately... Still keeping fingers crossed. =)

AC is nice, only have fans here at home, but doing OK with that.

Yep, same here, trying to keep the bills down as much as possible...

I actually got one of those air cleaners a couple of years ago. The nice thing about it is that it directed straight upward, so it's like a ceiling fan but on the floor. Gives a nice and even breeze throughout the apartment.

I have never seen energy (electricity & natural gas) go up this fast in my entire bill paying life. Just a year ago I was paying less than half for electricity and was paying a quarter as much for natural gas. So electricity has gone up over 100%, and natural gas up over 300% in less than one year.

At least I locked in to a relatively decent natural gas price late last year that is good for 3 years. Most are paying even more than me.

    Totally sucks.

i saw this on youtube and i gave it a try. it's the cheapest way to make an expensive-level filter. get a new box fan and then get a 20x20 furnance filter. get a merv 13 filter or better. you put it on the BACK, not the front.

and you let it run all the time.
there's a video that says to use a 20x20x2 because there's less air resistance. i have a x1 and it blocks a lot the airflow through, but it DOES get hair and dust and dirt quite well.

some guys made a cube version which looks ridiculious. https://i.imgur.com/JlVI8R8.png

this college guy took credit for the idea and named it the corsi-rosenthal box. people have been doing stuff like this for years, though.

make sure you have the arrows pointing the right way and buy the filters in packs or they will get expensive. you can probably vac a filter out one time when it gets full.

over by me the prices are going up high and then our provider wants to research green energy and impliment it so we were told in the news our rates will be raising to cover that, too.

Yep, looks like it should do the job!

The cube version kind of reminds me of the one I have: https://www.mi.com/global/mi-air-purifier-3H/

    :-D

It's good as a fan but less as an air purifier. My old Electrolux had a built-in ozone generator -- that one really made the air fresh, and I wish I had kept it... This one? Can't even filter out some cigarette smoke from the next apartment entering through the ventilation inlets below the windows,
despite all the laser yada yada. Gladly detects and indicates air pollution but doesn't switch to full speed to tackle it in time, and there's no way to set the desired target level.

Now you know why I haven't been very keen on buying a new filter for it... Which by the way has a built in NFC tag to keep you from getting a pirate filter (or perhaps even reusing it after cleaning it -- not sure about that).

So, for now, it's just a glorified fan. And an expensive one at that... :-/

Is there any electric bill which is not high as fuck these days?

I don't live in a very hot area so I am not a proponent of AC... for this place. Heat
might get uncomfortable about 2 months per year tops. I think it is not worth it to
install a proper AC for the few (comparative) hours per year when you are going to
face heat which you can easily defeat drinking more fresh water.

That said, at $job we have one of those climatizers which use a central condensor/evaporator for the whole place. Since it is going to be turned on anyway we
might as well turn it on to its full capacity (or rather, as hight as required to
achieve a comfortable temperature). That is nice and sometimes I wish I could have
such thing at home. Then I crank the numbers and think (once again) that it is not
    worth it.

We also have some air purifiers ar $job but they don't contribute much to thermal
sensation. They remove bad odor quite quickly, which is great.

Nothing beats a reverseable heat pump with a set of fan coils in my opinion. Next best
thing is a portable AC with integrated heat pump, of those in which you use a hose to
exchange temperature with the outside. Any solution lesser than that is most likely
    not worth it IMO.

I am not talking about air purification. I am talking about lowering the temperature
    indoors :-)

Here, they taught me that real air conditioning adjusts both temperature and humidity.
Machines that make indoors cooler are just cooling machines. Nothing wrong with those
    IMO.

I remember running my portable vacuum one or two times a day when I had pets. That also helped a lot. =)

i need something that runs passively all day long to get cat fur.
i dont think they have anything like that.

    Get a dog.

Then he will have dog fur all around in addition to the cat fur.

I think the dog suggestion is great, but not because of the fur problems...

Heck, there is a lot of horse fur in my house and the horses rarely go in :-)

    Hi everyone,

Installed InspectA (a great file viewer, et cetera, that can let you inspect mail packets) and I discovered a bunch of netmail I wrote using Blue Wave
that was sitting there due to the "hold" flag being set. Weird. I'd better check my BW config...
