MBSE was originally developed under Slackware and I did a lot of
testing using Devuan. There may be issues with other Linux distros
that we are not aware of.

Ah good, yes that makes sense. I don't need to complicate things since
I am not very at home in linux. And actually Slackware was my first
ever linux install. I downloaded and wrote all those damn floppies. Ah
    the good ole days.

I'd stick with Linux to start with. DOSemu currently does not work
under BSD so you'd have no doors for now. I am working on porting my doors to run under BSD though.

    Ok good to know.

I did install Bohdi this evening and got MBSE compiled and installed,
but that is as far as I got tonight. I'll get Slack downloaded and
burned to a DVD and install that.

I do have to get Windows Boot Manager off that damn drive though. Bohdi
was supposed to remove it, but its still there.

If you'd not mind, could you go into MIN_BBS and send Andrew a message about how your install went? If it worked right, we can add Bohdi Linux to the "supported" list. What is Bohdi based off of?

Windows is a PITA all the way 'round.

This is in MIN_BBS (now) :P yea... The only issue I noticed was
MBSE_ROOT didn't get set for some reason. Either I missed there
part where I was supposed to set it, or it didn't get set. Once I set
that the compile process seemed to work fine. After the fact I did find
the README.Ubuntu and installed the packages that it suggested. So, I
    probably need to recompile anyway.

Before I install Slack, I'll try to the process again and do things
right this time and let you know how it looks afterwards. And if it
seems like things work, I might stick with that for awhile.

Just incase I am install Slack on a VM here at the office just to go
through the process. Slow day today.

Bohdi is based on Ubuntu, it uses a windows manager that is based off Enlightenment, which was a really nice WM back in the day, one of the
first to do transparency and such. I loved it, but never had hardware
that could run it without issues. Now, the laptop at the bottom of my
unused laptop pile runs it fine LOL.

Yes, recompile ... did you reboot after you ran SETUP.sh and log in as the 'mbse' user?

You shouldn't have any issues with Slack though it's been so long since I've run Slack that if you have issues, let Andrew know. His main MBSE
development machine is running Slack 14 though Patrick keeps threatening to release Slack 15...someday.

Ah, okay. So many distros, so little time. I've found that I like FreeBSD much better than Linux for several reasons but it can be a bit hairy at
times to get things to work. I'd definitely not recommend FreeBSD as a
desktop unless you're really wanting to get under the hood. However, once
you do get it going, I've found FreeBSD as a personal desktop to be much
more stable for me than Linux.

No that is one thing I know I screwed up, I did not reboot after setup

and let you know my results.

Cool, I'll see how things go with Bohdi. If I have any issues I can
switch to Slack. But if it works under Bohdi, I could be a
Bodhi/Unbuntu test bed if I keep it running.

That is why the install broke. What you have to do is log in as mbse, copy the source code under /opt/mbse, go into the source directory, and then compile it.

Since Bodhi is based on Ubuntu, you should be good.

    It's a lot like AIX.
