I used to get yelled at when I was in school at ITT Tech for SSHing into my server at home by the school's IT tech (an older guy). I really pissed him off when I set my SSH port to 443. He couldn't prove otherwise.

I'd sit in class, bored as I already knew this stuff, and would work on the BBS and chat on IRC using irssi.

I actually could have been kicked out of school for doing that but they let me do it because I'd help teach some of the classes. <G>

That experience reminded me of a similar situation I had back when I was 18 years old. I graduated from HS, went into a summer tech program that also did job placement and was employed before the end of the calendar year.

I started working professionally in IT at age 18, but felt I had to at least experience a few college classes since my work offered to pay for them.

Two classes I took. One was 'C' programming and the other was one you had to take if you wanted a degree, which was some type of health class.

Both classes made me discover I wasn't missing anything by not going to college and I hated both of them. The 'C' class lowered my grade because I used logic routines they had not covered in class. It wasn't by problem that I already knew this stuff and was taking it just for the credit. Total BS.

The health class assigned me to do a report on alcoholism which I was sitting in class drinking a rum and coke.

The two experiences confirmed that college was not for me. I never looked back and did just fine.

I'd highly recommend CompTIA's A+ and their Network+, Security+, and Linux+ certs. My A+ cert has allowed me to get jobs I'd not have otherwise. I have a lifetime A+ cert as I received mine in 2005.

think it's a hot occupation for my area, nor does it pay what i'm looking for. I've done everything except truck driving pretty much. from 18 through 29-30 I would have a regular job and then take off the summers to work for my family's hotel business. Talking call ins is honorable, I was the only one taking call ins for 2 1/2 years at my old job, No matter what time in the night. It got so frequent I just ended up taking the night shift to ensure the place ran smoothy 24/7 and it did right up to the covid shutdown.

The best thing was they paid you 4 hours just to punch in plus your time.
So 4 1/2 hours to replace a fuse and leave only to get called back 3 minutes into driving home, worked another two hours on another machine got paid 10 1/2 hours plus I worked a 10 hour shift already that day. Do this two to four times a week I was making some serious loot.

Unfortunatly the Government also made some serious loot. :|

I work with someone who has that as the email notification on their phone, every hour it goes off...

Wow. That'd get annoying really fast.

I disabled both audio and vibration notifications on calls, emails and now texting. I'm actually one step away from turning off ALL notifications.

Some moron I have to work with for a customer of mine is using Imesage on a Mac, so what he does is type one sentence, presses enter, another sentence, presses enter etc. over and over. This shows up as individual texts on my Iphone thus it just gets "stupid" with the noise and buzzing.

UGH! I'd shut it all off too. Look at it when you can.
