Areas affected...northern North Carolina
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 041835Z - 042030Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent
SUMMARY...Locally severe downbursts may develop near the
Virginia/North Carolina border and into northern North Carolina.
DISCUSSION...Surface analysis indicates a zone of wind convergence
from extreme southeast VA into northern NC, with TCU evident.
Temperatures are approaching 100 F with dewpoints mixing into the
lower 70s F, resulting in a deep mixed layer along with high PWAT.
Winds aloft are generally out of the west, with 15-20 kt speeds
common through the midlevels. This would appear to favor a few
multicell clusters generally moving southeastward, and producing
locally damaging wind gusts. The most concentrated storm potential
appears to be over north-central into northeast NC as cells possibly consolidate later this afternoon.
