driving" Before the advent of commonplace blue-tooth capability in vehicles I was know to tell callers "Hang on while I find a pull-off
so we can talk."
Steve used to use an earplug/microphone with his cell so he could talk
to me on his way home from college classes at night. After a busy day starting with PT early in the morning, talking with me while driving
was one way to keep awake. He's also pulled off the road a number of
times to take calls but having a Ford vehicle with Sync now, he can
talk while driving.
Those were actual blue-tooth headsets. When they first appeared and before I learned of them I used to think the people having and animated chat with thin air were "whack-a-mole" goofy and look around for the transport from the saylum. Bv)= I had them once I learned of them and before car radios with blue-tooth capability became available.

Figs are pretty well done for this year. There are a few more on the
tree but told our neighbor to help himself.
AFAIK I've never had a fresh fig. Just fig newtons, fig jam, etc. Figs are
a Zone 8 cultivar and Illinois is Zone 5 or 6 depending on north or south.
Made this yesterday - I worked a short (very busy) shift from 11 ayem until 1 covering lunches and didn't feel like fussing with dinner. So
I tried out this "just-in" recipe, adapting it to finish in the crock
pot. Dennis and I polished off all but a cup or so - which became a
doggie treat.

I've done them with a basic meat loaf mix but they're not one of
Steve's favorite meals. Maybe this version would go over better.
I've had the ones made with a meatlof mix of meats. I *muc* prefer the all beef (for the meat) versions. You can also make them "zippy" in some flavour enhancing ways like using El Pato tomato sauce for part of the marinara. Or, as simply as mixing in a 4 oz can of dice green chilies.
This recipe works best with home grown or Farmer's Market tomatoes. You can use produce aisle tomatoes but it probably won't be as good.

Title: Rice & Beef Stuffed Tomatoes

Yield: 2 Servings
2 lg Tomatoes
1/2 c Water
1/2 c Minit or Uncle Ben's rice
8 oz Ground chuck
1 sm Yellow onion; peeled, chop'd
1 cl Garlic; mashed, minced
Salt & black pepper
15 oz Can tomato sauce
3 oz (1/2 can) tomato juice

4 oz (1/2 can) El Pato or Snap E
- Tom tomato sauce
Set oven @ 350+|F/175+|C. Grease a small oven-proof dish.
Cut tops from tomatoes and scoop out the pulp; transfer
pulp to a bowl and chop. Reserve tops of tomatoes.
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan, pour in the rice,
and cover pan; let stand until rice absorbs water, about
5 minutes.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and
stir beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly,
5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Mix cooked
rice, onion, garlic, salt, and black pepper into ground
beef; add reserved tomato pulp and tomato sauce. Bring
the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer
until thickened, 10 minutes.
Set hollowed-out tomatoes into the prepared baking dish
and fill each tomato with ground beef mixture. If
desired, place tomato tops back on filled tomatoes. Pour
tomato juice over filled tomatoes for extra juiciness.
Bake until tomatoes are tender and filling is hot, about
20 minutes
