12 March 1912 - JULIETTE GORDON LOW FOUNDS THE GIRL SCOUTS: To provide
girls opportunities to experience the outdoors, develop self-reliance,
and participate in community service, Juliette Gordon Low organizes a
Girl Guide troop meeting of 18 girls in her hometown of Savannah,
Georgia. A year later, the Girl Guides will change their name to the
Girl Scouts of the USA. The organization will go on to attract millions
of girls and spread to 92 countries.

Title: Girl Scout Lemonades Cookies

1 c Butter; softened
1/2 c Confectioners' sugar
1/4 c Cornstarch
1 1/2 c All-purpose flour
Zest of 1 lemon
In a stand mixer, cream the butter, then slowly add the
remaining ingredients until mixture sticks together when
pressed into a ball. Roll the dough until 1/4" thick.
Cut out with a small cookie cutter. Transfer to a baking
sheet and bake in an oven heated to 375-|F/190-|C for
11-14 minutes, or just until the cookies have set.
Serve with a sprinkling of lemon zest and sparkling
sugar, if desired.
