Here's another you may want to try (come summer) which is gluten free
so you can share with your war department. I'm just sort of showing off something new I learned when researching G.F. ingredients for a friend
who was diagnosed with celiac. Whilst buckwheat has wheat in its name,
in is, in fact, not a wheat and contains no gluten.

Title: Grasshopper Fritters
Categories: Exotics, Dairy, Breads
Yield: 12 Servings
3/4 c Sifted buckwheat flour
1 ts Baking powder
1 ts Salt
3/4 c Milk
1 lg Egg; slightly beaten
1 c Grasshoppers
1 pt Heavy cream; beaten stiff
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together into a bowl.
Slowly add milk and beat until smooth. Add egg and beat
well.
Pluck off grasshopper wings and legs, heads optional.
Dip insects in egg batter and deep fry. Salt and serve.
