Game tracking cameras are a quick fix or temporary situation regarding observing activity in an area. Place them on a tree if possible otherwise spray paint them to match whatever they are mounted on.

I looked into a couple of those, too. I need to find an affordable one
with wireless. The ones I found wrote to an SD card which, although access
to them required opening the case, did not really seem to be secured in any
way if someone wanted to open the case and remove the card.

That is why I mentikoned re-painting them. At a conservation club I help out with, we would place game cams 12+ feet up on trees and buildings, out of
reach and outside of natural viewing level. Place one on a building next to pipes or conduit coming it, and paint it to look like utilities boxes.

all of them have a latch for a padlock.

A latch or padlock doesn't help if they can take the entire camera. Hide
them out of standard reach, and do not leave a ladder stting outside

i have 7 security cameras. one thing i noticed is they get a lot more if it's up high.

so i would hang one outside a window if it's at a house. you'd have to see if you can tilt it or get a good frame of view.

they also have a strap or you can screw it into the surface.

these are meant to be outside unattended; they dont make them so someone can come by and just put them in their pocket.

The game cams I have are too big to fit in a pocket. They're about the footprint of a 10" tablet, but thicker.

Like a utility box, that is a good idea.

The other day you mentioned you didn't necessarily like the wifi security cameras. What kind do you have, if you don't mind my asking?

That's why I recommend palcing them out of reach or regular eye view, plus painting them so they don't stick out as being cameras

I have read that Amcrest works well with motionEyeOS, although I think that
was the ethernet wired ones and not wireless.

if someone is starting from the beginning i recommend getting a cheap optiplex and having everything wired. get convoluted loom to shield your wires from the weather.

webcamxp is a great windows software that works with many types of cameras and it also has great detection and many features.

you dont have to fuck around with a raspberry pi. get a cheap computer from ebay and have a nice big hd in it and record videos and take pics. install dropbox or whatever and upload the files to the cloud. have it send you snapshots in email.
