I didn't think you could run an actual DOS with DOSBox; I thought DOSBox basically had its own implementation of a DOS environment. How is that different from running MS-DOS 6.22 in a VM with something like VMWare or VirtualBox etc.?
It's similar.
Instead of running its own environment, you create a blank disk image (basically a container file) and boot the DOS installation disk. from DOS setup, you format the disk image, install DOS on it, and when you boot again, you're running in DOS.
The serial port redirection works, I can connect via Telix to port 23, and packet drivers work fine.
