I used to dial into a 12 line TBBS system, then discovered the same sysop
ran a 12 line MajorBBS. After about a year as a user, I diddled with Renegade and purchased D'Bridge for echomail. A couple years after that I was made
Fido NC for net 1:142 (surprised to get it back including my original number!).

I added a couple lines to Renegade to see how it handled a few things which
it did well. I ended up purchasing MajorBBS and it's dialout module since I
had a shell account and had a good dial area south and west of Hartford then
so I bumped it up to 6 lines with a good fixed shell menu into my shell account so others could get on the internet prior to the introduction of WorldGroup.

I had a great user base too... and they loved helping out with registering doors they liked so they could get those little added features. It was def

Hey! Happy to see there is still a community on active BBS(s)
Really loved downloading the latest shareware games from different
bbs(s) when I was a kid Looking forward to more lerking and hunting on
    all these amazing BBS(s)

I used to spend HOURS every day calling many different bbs's just to get
the latest shareware games and follow up with all my messages.

i had a blast doing it....

Ahh, the good old daze! I, too -- I mostly liked te messaging aspects,
& the camaraderie in the LORD games (was as close to the old text adventure games I ever found)

I called 10+ boards/day in my heyday, all local, as they began dying
out post-Y2K, I branched out & called several other DOS-based boards
LD. At one point I was putting in 6,000 minutes/month of long distance modem calls!

I'm still RL friends with a couple sysops!

I realized I was sick of facebook a little while ago, & missing the easygoing chat/fun of BBSing & Fidonet, so talked to my one sysop mate about reconecting my old point, but he's bee out of the loop for a while,so referred me to the sysop of the taglined BBS below; I'm out of the loop, too, as I'm unable to get my point setup working. . .

I helped plan a big meetup/party at one point, for a multinode BBS I
was on. Great fun, including a massive water fight!

Did smaller GTGs at local bars, too. . . ahh, the good ol' pre-internet days. . . I still miss them.

I still have my trusty old DOS IBM 486 ready to be plugged in &
reconnect to the BBSes still accepting dialup!

    I'm in a sub-burp of Vancouver, Canada. . where's you?

    Your friend,

I've still got my Laser 386 sitting in storage, complete with Math Co-Processor, and thinking about resurecting it. Might be interesting. Might have to wait till winter when things aren't as hectic around here though. Tried to bring up my original IBM PC but no luck. Worked fine when stored but now won't post. Some day I'll take a closer look.

Oh, but for this actual post, I am running BlueWave 2.3 for DOS full

So far it has been a little pain getting some things to run right due to drivers - this box was made for Windows XP. But, as it only has 512MB of
RAM it's a perfect candidate for Windows 98 for me. I did have to buy a
PS/2 mouse and keyboard (total about $20) since it has major software
issues with USB - I may get those fixed later, but it's low priority. I
also had to install a SoundBlaster PCI 16 card I bought last year off
ebay. Now, I'm just waiting for the final piece - a proper video card
coming later this week or next. Currently Windows 98 is stuck at 16
colors and 640x480 resolution - but DOS apps don't care <haha>. This has
been fun to jump back and play with some old hardware/software. Once
I get the video card setup my son and daughter and I will be playing

existed for dial-up convenience, into an IP-only, regionwide network -

It's a matter of streamlining operations. At one point I, as the RC and EC for my region, had close to a dozen AKAs, when you include all of the "placeholder" /0 addresses I had to advertise. If people are willing to hub for their network, I've set that up. Some people want to be able to create their own nodelist segments, route echomail, etc.

Might be that Microsoft killed the DOS Modem connectivity in your area, if every BBS you call is runnig Win95 or higher & just running the BBS as a window. ..

The DOSmodem was killed by Y2K :'(

Everybody bought new computers, which were not compatible with any but a Winmodem :'(

& t hese compupters came wth a free internet disk for AO-Hell &/or Compu- Slurp; people discovered the vast amounts of unchecked access to porn on the internet & BBSing was truly dead. . .
