It's also because BBS aren't exactly n00b-friendly, and also they mainly appeal to the kinds of people webforums appeal to, and there a a lot more people that those don't appeal to but social networking sites do.
Have you been thinking about BBS idea delivered as a modern app experience? That wouldn't change the mainstream thing at all.. but what I'm occasionally thinking of is how and if BBS can be delivered today as more modern xperience..
