A rant about Chinese charecters

Okay, so I've been taking manderin lessons for about 7 months, and I noticed something that doesn't seem logical to me.
So, the character for person is /\ (please bear with me, the text editor on my BBS doesn't have chinese characters :/ )
And big is -/\- (which makes sence, because the line is waist hight, which is fairly large)
So my question is why small isn't _/\_
It would make sense since the line is at the feet of the person, which is where small objects and animals are (e.g. a tennis ball and an ant)
I know that there might be something I'm missing, so if there's a reason (e.g. it being an existing character) please let me know!
