It's clear that a small number of people are able to control what
happens, which is a feature of capitalism.
Another feature of capitalism is that if eBay won't allow you to sell
you items, you go to another service. After all, if Company 1 doesn't satify their users, Company 2 is just waiting to take their customers.
Bank cancels your account? Sue for breach of contract, or go to

This is exactly why many companies have policies that strictly enforce communication from employees on Social Media. As an
example, if you post something about your company on LinkedIn, and you aren't authorized to do so, you could easily be
terminated for misrepresenting the company. Even if I go onto LinkedIn and post something great about my employer, I am
still not authorized to speak regarding them. Can I share links of

It will. What intrigues me is that the politics that *depends* on the woke/millenials etc, is now working hard to piss them off as it bows
down to the corporate whims. I'm starting to see quite clearly the "buyer's remorse" with this latest administration change as the latte drinking, gig-economy working. Dem voting begin to realise that they screwed up. Largest example is the misguided proposed Labour

That's true. In particular, I use Plex quite a bit and the Plex app for that Samsung TV hadn't been updated in ages. I decided to buy a Roku Stick for it, and now I usually use the Roku Stick for pretty much any streaming capability. I thought the same thing, it might make more sense to upgrade a cheaper plug-in device every so often rather than the whole TV.
This. Unless you're also planning to upgrade the image quality of your TV, for instance, the resolution or move from an LCD panel to an OLED panel, replacing the entire unit would be unnecessary and a serious waste of resources. My 55" 4K Sony Bravia from '17 does the job... the Smart TV capabilities still hold up with Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube and Disney+ support. When the device is no longer supported, I will probably go down the route of purchasing a streaming stick because 8K TVs are a fad and OLED TVs are still too costly to justify the expenditure.

There's a problem with this belief. Why should a platform be held responsible for the content written by someone who is not
an employee or designate of the company? If you're on Facebook and
choose to write something, in your personal capacity,
those are your words and nothing more. If, on the other hand, you work for Facebook and write something, you are speaking
for the company and are responsible for those words.
You are conflating two completely disparate issues.
1. Employees speaking "on behalf" of the company
2. Users of the platform speaking to each other
In the first instance, compay policy is obviously important for the reasons you state.
It's the second instance that we're talking about.
If you look at the role of a publisher, in the more traditional
sense the newspaper or books publishers for example, then they have
a specific responsibility. They are held equally legally accountable together with the author for what has been published. For example,
if I write a book and it is published by company A, and later on I
am sued for Libel, then Company A is a co-defendent because as my publisher they have to exercise their due diligence during the
process of publication to ensure that what is published isn't
legally actionable. They thus can choose to either refuse to publish
what I write, or insist on redactions or modifications to what I
write before publishing. They are in fact legally obligated to do
so.
Companies such as Facebook, Twitter et al, have insisted, in and out
of court, that they are NOT in fact publishers, and only the
providers of the platform on which other people speak. THey have
used this defence to avoid being held legally accountable for the
legally actionable speech of what people have said while using their platform. One of the criteria for claiming this status (platform not publisher) is that not only do they not have the obligation to censor/monitor/take responsibility for the speech that happens on
their platform, they also, and more importantly, do not have the
*right* to do so.
In different hearings/court cases etc, they have defended their
choice to censor speech based on taking a position the exact polar opposite to this.
So, as I said, they want to have their cake and eat it.

4K itself is just a marketing gimmick to get people to upgrade their televisions. Again, I have a medium sized 55" 4K TV and sit slightly over 2 meters away from it which renders 4K indistinguishable from 1080p. Sony and Microsoft are falling over themselves to push 4K gaming resolutions, resulting
in the requirement for 4x the GPU processing power, for something that most people are not going to be able to detect. I understand that 4K is an advantage
for PC users who are sitting only half a meter away from their 22"-27" monitors, there you can see the difference. I'll never get an 8K television unless I become so fabulously wealthy I could afford to live in a property big
enough to house an 86" TV.

I notice the difference between 1080p and 4k... that said, I still have
most media at 1080p because it isn't worth the extra drive space... I
also have most of my content in h.265 because I prefer the fallback rendering degradation better than h.264 (blurry vs blocky).
AI upscaling on higher end NVidia GPUs seems to bridge the gap to 4k
pretty well, still need a decently powerful CPU to keep up though. That close 1440p seems to be the sweet spot. I'm using a 32" 1440p display
as the 42" 4k was just too much neck strain I wound up not using the
outside perimeter for day to day use when I started working at home.
Agreed on the 8k though... would be good if you're doing a *lot* of
reading to have that super high pixel density, but other than that,
doesn't really do much and even then e-ink is a better option for that.

Nope. I enjoy playing old text based adventures and if I want a graphic game, I fire up my C64.
"Pretty pictures" do not make a game, but making a good, fun, playable
game is hard (and companies need to actually pay someone good money
to make one).
I do agree now that with AMD's RDNA2 and nVidia's DLSS, 4K can by achieved relatively easily by lower end cards via upscaling. My previous comment is only
really valid in relation to the mid-gen console refreshes, the PS4 Pro and XboxONE X. I think 1440p is the sweet spot also. I wish computer manufacturers
realised this as I would be interested in a 1440p gaming laptop with a 15" or 17" panel. 4K panels are a total waste at that size.
I pretty much jumped out of gamming because it was about to become
a money sink. There is this trend that you have to purchse thousands
of dollar in gamming equipment just so you can play current games multiplayer, and when you get the game, it is loaded up with DLCs
and in-game purchases polluting the experience.
IMO it is more cost effective to stick to games that are less resource intensive but still fun. There is still a powerful Command and Conquer community doing multiplayer :-P I think the 5th to 6th generation of consoles was the golden age since we got games that were sold in a
complete state which were actually fun without addons, yet they were
very visual already.
And yes, I still play lots of bsdgames. I love Trek, and Rogue rocks.

And Biden is still "biden his time"...still no news conference. Maybe they need to redo the Oval Office to the Biden Basement, where he'll be more comfortable. :P

You're funny. The Office of the President is just like any other executive office, lower departments release press statements and communications whenever necessary. Expecting President Biden to tweet
his day away is ridiculous. Biden has done more in the past three
months for America than Trump did in his first year. Trump focused on helping those with "his" beliefs and not the country as a whole.
What 4K is going to call out is the horrible resolution of cable. Most cable channels look like they're horridly compressed; OK on a 36" 1080P TV, but now that everyone bought 55" plus TVs during the pandemic, it's looking pretty bad.

I bought a 4K TV based on reviews, and compared to my slightly
earlier TV, the HDR is what makes the most difference to me.

Something I have heard argued is that larger screens are gonna ruin the watcher's experience, because he is going to have a resolution high
enough to notice compression artifacts which didn't use to be
noticeable.

If most of what you watch is not real high resolution I think it is just better not to upgrade.
HDR makes a massive difference for me too especially when I play console games. The colours are way less saturated and look for more authentic than what I am seeing on my PC.

When silent movies went out and sound movies went in, a large number of Hollywood types had to "retire"
because they lacked good speaking voices.
A similar thing happened when movies became very high res. Some Hollywood types had to "retire" because
those high res movies showed of blemishes that couldn't be covered up.
There are PC graphics cards and monitors that support HDR too.

I never heard anything like this. maybe someone put this on wikipedia.
i do know some stopped because it was a total different type of acting.

i'm calling bullshit on this.

Then there's the need to be extra careful. If you remember when they
used parts of the original Star Trek
in an episode of Deep Space 9, they had to clean up much of the
original footage because things like coffee
stains on the uniform would show up in the high res video of today.

If you have component inputs on your TV, you can buy a 480i cable on eBay for cheap - makes a little bit of difference. I had a TV that oddly, didn't have RCA inputs.

Oh, ya, this is well documented. Many had such strong accents that they couldn't be understood.
