  • Setting up an old pc for synchronet

    I have an old window 10;unit I want to set up for sbbs. I can copy sbbs over to it and it run's but when I try to install ntvdmx64 I cannot get windows defender to get out of the way no matter what I try. I also noticed in dos when I try run an executable it cannot find it even if I am in the same directory it is located in. What am I missing out on? I hope someone can tell me the obvious thing I am overthinking. Thank you.

    DOVE-Net "General" is probably not the best place to ask for tech help. We have better conferences for that.

    I've successfully installed NTVDMx64 on multiple Win10 systems. Can you elaborate?

    If it's a 64-bit edition of Windows and you do *not* have NVTMDx64 installed, you can't run DOS programs. Normally, it'll still find and try to execute the .exe file, but just report an error, e.g. "Unsupported 16-bit Application".


    What am I missing out on? I hope someone can
    tell me the obvious thing I am overthinking. Thank you.

    Why not run Win10 32 bit and save yourself some headache.

    I fixed the path problem, it is working now. I have synchronet and ntvdm64 running on it just fine, still want to ditch defender sometime. The pc is windows 10 home edition.

    No headache, took 15 minutes to set up. I followed digital man's instructions and it was easy. I now have a clone of my BBS running on a very fast pc. Thanks and have a great day.
