From ricky sutphin@VERT/ECBBS to echicken on Sat May 18 15:33:39 2024
how do i bring up a keyboard on a mobile device while connected to the web server? I like the way yours looks on my ipad. On a PC I have no problems using a standard physical keyboard, but on a mobile device my synchronet is not showing a keyboard option so it is impossible to 'type' anything into the ansi window on the web page. I have a few users that asked me how to bring up a keyboard on the web browser on their mobile devices and I am in the same pickle. I like the way yours is laid out and it works well with my ipad and my amazon fire tablet. Is it a module I can download? Thank you in advance for your time. I like the electronic chicken!

if you're talking about his site specifically, it's menu > keyboard

he has a frame like thing there that makes you have to scroll down to use the keyboard which makes it difficult.

    you can use https://my.ftelnet.ca/
to connect to any bbs you want without these restrictions.

fTelnet is the same web app included with Synchronet ecWeb, but you might be describing a different (newer) version. Ree/Manning is the author of fTelnet and you can often find him in the Synchronet support conferences (not this one) or the #synchronet channel at irc.synchro.net.

there isn't a 'module' but there's code you generate on the site that you can paste.

btw, visiting bbses on mobile devices really sucks. it's just usually
    difficult to do.

They are better off using an android/ios app. there's been good android ones but
they are no longer usable because they were tied to specific bbs lists.

on echicken's actual website it's hard to use the keyboard because it's boxed in and you have to scroll down.

I think that's what this guy is talking about.

Rob, Iooked on the Synchro Wiki yesterday to refresh my memory about what the icons below a post mean.
I remember what the ones that use the Greater than >
    Or
    Lesser than <
    Character mean.
I just can't find my note the day You told me about all of them.
That "chain link" looking icon still confuses me as to it's purpose.
The Wiki results for icon didn't work out for me.
What does that symbol do? Thanks!

This is the wrong conference for Synchronet questions.

You're asking an ecWeb question (the author is echicken), not a Synchronet question.

You actually can sign onto the BBS that way. You would be looking at the "terminal" version that one would see if they were to telnet to the board instead of the web version that you are currently using.

I was not sure if it would work on a phone or not but it sounds like maybe
    you got it to work.

You asked about the ecWeb "forum" message reading inteface which has icons. Those icons have pop-up hover help. Using a computer, you'd hover your mouse over the icons to tell you what they do. On a phone, I don't know how you get that hover help to appear.

As far as I know I haven't used (or found) a Terminal on this Android phone.
I have played with the Terminal in Ubuntu Linux some.
After sending replies I will look to see if there is a Terminal App on this phone.
But You know how confused I have been trying to use Hyperterminal on XP.
This phone will do until I can get XP talking thru this phone and get back to my 'normal' procedure of getting QWK packets w/ FTP.
You already know what is normal to me.
