I just got screwed yet again on Ebay/Paypal. Ebay employees the bad sellers and paypal takes your money for them. I don't have a facebook or twitter account with thousands of followers but I'm going to try and reach out to the few people I know in BBS Land. Watch who you buy from on Ebay. Ebay and Paypal do not monitor bad sellers until it's too late.. Especially if you buy something for under 100 bucks. As a person living on a fixed income in an adult home 100 bucks is a fortune to me. But Ebay/PayPal only want the big players. So watch yourself. If you can buy used stuff at your local Salvation Army please do that. Don't give your money to the likes of Ebay/Paypal. That's all for now.

    What happened?

PayPal has always been a bitch to work with as merchant so I don't really like it much.

Ebay used to be about small sellers, but nowadays you can only make a profit there if you are a big seller with a big turnover of items, which is sort of sad.

I bought a used laptop that didn't fit the description. I can still use it but the seller wasn't honest about it. Ebay needs to check on their sellers in my opinion but I know that's hard to do. It bugs me that ebay and paypal are the same. I'd feel better if they were two seperate entities but that's a pipe dream too. :-(

Yea.. I opened a case so I'll see what happens. This is my first one. The case is with paypal. Paypal is who I have a problem with. The entire internet requires paypal. I got the darn thing working so that's good. The memory chip was bad. I just happened to have another one and it works fine. Installed Lubuntu and I'm good to go. The seller should have stated it had a bad memory chip and only boot to bios. It worked out for me but it should have been listed as "Not Working for parts only". Bitch Bitch Bitch LOL

    Aw man, too bad.

I buy my used hardware from professional dealers nowadays. They have warranty periods and such which is quite convenient, and
if need be, you can show up at their shop and yell at them. Most of the time, there are no problems, though. Last time they
sold me a server that didn't work, they replaced it for me, no questions asked.

I enjoy putting together old machines. I can't justify dealer prices. I'd probably screw up a new machine. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. I've heard it's a bitch to hack operating systems on new machines. Windows builds their licences into the hardware? What's a UEIU or whatever? No more BIOS anymore?

Oh, I mean dealers of USED hardware.

Mostly, they buy computers and gear from bankrupt firms at a tiny fraction of their worth. Then they sell them to you at a tiny
x 2 fraction of the cost. End result is you end up buying capable machines for dirty cheap - we are talking less than 100 usd.

Automatic, there was quite a bit of manual work - all of our

I've been buying and selling on eBay and using PayPal for years, in fact pretty much from day one when each was launched and only had 1 bad experience that I can remember. Its a rule to check the feedback ratings of the users you buy from before you buy. And, PayPal is great with their fraud prevention and always good on getting your money back. I use PayPal and Square in my computer/IT business daily, no issues every.

In my old neighborhood there were tons of yard sales back in the day. Do they still have those? Ebay is engineered in such a way that it is only profitable to sell there if you have a HIGH turnover of articles. If you do, you can make decent money.

If you want to make a casual sale, you are screwed.

Ebay has no real competition at this point. Every other auction site I have checked is a wasteland compared to Ebay.
