I've always wanted to improve my programming skills but never really had the patience (or perhaps just took the time) to get beyong the beginner level.
This last year I've been putting in more of an effort. Mostly I've been working with Python with the CS50p and a few other resources here and there. And for the first time I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere. I've been working on a few ideas (an "admin" console and my own SSH console, both with CustomTKinter).
I've also had fun playing around with Pascal and have been making my own stupid little game in Lazarus. Thought now that I'm improving in CSharp and WPF I think I'll try making it with that instead. I also built a Pascal version of my admin console in Lazarus in just a few hours that I am already using at work but again, being in a Windows environment, the "proper" thing to do would be to re-create this in CSharp.
All of that said. I've re-visted JavaScript in the last few weeks and am finding that my experience with these other languages is starting to translate to a better understanding of JavaScript (even though I still find it so chaotic).
So, I've finally re-visted creating my own, customized command shell for Synchronet that will perhaps lead me to moving away from Mystic (I like Mystic but it seems Synchronet is more actively developed today) finally. I pretty much had to go through the default.js command shell and re-write things line by line but that process seemed to help me understand what is going on and how to modify it to do what I want. I guess you can teach an old (47 years old) dog new tricks after all!
Cheers,
Travis
