    12: voting is dumb

    Cool story bro.

I've seen online forum software that has a similar poll/voting feature. Some people like it, and I guess some don't. The cool thing is you have the freedom to not participate in them or even reply to them if you aren't into it..

i thought i disabled it but maybe a backup restored it.

i think it's a good idea to just have a separate msg sub for voting, like smb ---

They say if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Just seems like "voting is dumb" is one of those instances, and it doesn't really contribute anything to the conversation, other than someone just saying they don't like it. And if they don't, then they don't have to participate..

i contributed. i said it should go into a specific msg base.

do you REALLY think you contributed by asking people what super power they would want to have?

For me, it makes more sense on a forum (one advantage of the one size fits all interface). On BBSs, there's so many different possibilities - online vs offline, local vs remote, QWK vs FTN networking, vs NNTP, Synchronet vs non Synchronet, etc.

Wouldn't a BBS messagebase be considered a 'forum'? A forum is simply a place where messages are exchanged. I'm not sure that the specific technical aspects of how you read the messages matter a whole lot in that sense.

Not in the conventional usage, web forums are known to be a specific type of system. Synchronet can emulate them, and some people might see it as a web forum, if that's the only way they access a SBBS board. When it comes to new features like voting, how one accesses the system can matter, because it's possible that some access methods don't have the functionality. How do you vote if you read mail offline for instance?
